Engagement Photography In Charleston, SC

Congratulation you just got engaged. Now you’re going to make a huge decision on who will capture that romance, the connection of you both not only in engagement photography but also should that storyteller capture it perfectly then he or she may capture one of the most important parts of your life your wedding day.

Once you have made that perfect decision, then the time comes where will you capture this engagement session being that Charleston has so much to offer, will it be in our Holy City, or maybe at Magnolia Plantation.

Here are two different couples that did exactly what I have described above. I often get many clients inquiry about capturing their engagement session and I figured I would post just a few fantastic engagement images to give my new clients a great feel for my passion for the art in capturing incredible engagement images. Enjoy:

Southern Wedding at Legend Oaks Golf & Tennis Club for Jessica & Jennifer

I have lived in Charleston for over 26 years, I love this Holy City, even more so to being so very blessed as a storyteller a wedding photographer that documents and captures the best of times and the happiest times in any wedding for the last 18 years, I have had the great honor of capturing over 500 weddings at some  best and most amazing wedding venues.

Today I bring you a unique wedding, two women who fell for what we all want and need a partner in life and love. The wedding venue is called Legend Oaks Golf Club, located in Summerville, SC. As you drive into the property you see the avenue of oaks, filled with so many of them as old as 300 years, absolutely breathtaking, God and mother nature, nothing finer. The coordinator there Theresia E Ware who is very professional and so very nice is many ways, actually referred this client to me after a so-called wedding photographer canceled on them just two months prior to their wedding. I had captured a friend of her daughter wedding that she attended and told this client in her observation of how I captured that wedding she had never seen another wedding photographer quite like me.

The wedding day went perfect, as always with my perfect designed timeline, and the help of her talented brother Aaron, these two Jennifer & Jessica, had the best memorable wedding day, shared with their close friends and family.

Here is their love story written by Jessica;

Jen and I met by chance online. We talked for what seems like forever before we finally decided to meet. After a long nervous flight from South Carolina to Texas wondering if this was the craziest thing I have ever done, I saw her and our love story began. We spent months traveling back and forth visiting each other until we finally decided to be in one place together After being together for three years Jen took me to the beach for a picnic where she seemed to forget everything, but come to find out, she was so nervous because that is where she proposed to me.

Amanda & Kyle A Military Wedding The Pavilion At Pepper Plantation

What a great way to start the wedding year of 2018, then by posting this amazing wedding, I photographed for Amanda & Kyle. I was introduced to this military couple by the lovely great Rachel Cole, from Smooth Sailing Event Coordinating & Consulting Services. Rachel was very familiar with my wedding photography and the impeccable service I provide all of my clients. She knew I would be a perfect fit and once the contract and deposit were completed, I worked diligently with Amanda lovely mom in planning her daughter destination wedding.

The wedding took place at The Pavilion At Pepper Plantation, a very well know wedding venue here in Charleston, SC for having a very rustic theme with a barn, and beautiful landscape, a new modern twist, that features a waterfront gazebo, and gorgeous red roof, a wooden interior that is fresh and spectacular. If you are having your ceremony at this beautiful venue, you will be overlooking the pond with many pine trees for a truly chic wedding southern affair.

On the day of the wedding, the weatherman called for afternoon showers. As always with Rachel & Amanda mom we had created a great wedding timeline. I arrive at the cottage and was greeted by them and the bridesmaids, we then proceeded with the ceremony and as soon has it was over the rain came down, luckily for the couple, I always come with major back up equipment, another reason why my 18 years of true wedding photography comes into place. In this situation, the only option and free space was the porch area. I had to create this gorgeous light for family photos because there was not much there. By having the right lighting equipment, I was able to provide my clients with the quality of family photos they were looking for. I also managed in less than 10 minutes with my lighting technique in creating a spectacular light for the couples photos.

Once again, I always tell any future wedding clients that practically everyone is a wedding photographer today, and most can create wedding images in (Ambient Light, the camera actually does that), however if your wedding photographer has 5 years or less of photography experience like most, they have no idea how to create the right light with strobes or most other lighting equipment, if you want to see what I am talking about look and browse most of the Charleston blogs and you will see that very clearly. Again” not all wedding photographers are created equal” Experience matters a lot when there is only one day, one time to create these type of images you the client deserve that.

After the wedding was completed and I provided the couple with their wedding images, Amanda mom wrote me the most sincere and heartfelt Knot review. Truly an amazing family. Amanda & Kyle, thank you so very much for this huge honor and privilege you have given me.

The Hilton Head Marriott Resort & Spa Multicultural Wedding : Benita +Ryan

As I start on this beautiful Thursday, on this wedding blog post that is so very special to me, for these very nice clients Benita & Ryan, who went from having their wedding canceled in Puerto Rico, from the devastation of hurricane Maria, and then by having to move and plan their wedding in Beautiful Hilton Head Island, at The Hilton Head Marriott Resort in less than 3 weeks. It was not easy for them, and when I received the wedding photography request through my website, King Street Photo Weddings, from Benita, I was so shocked at to the date requested that claimed only 3 weeks in advance. I then by reply asked this bride if she did not mean the year 2018? She replied no and explained this very unfortunate situation.

Multicultural The Hilton Head Marriott Resort & Spa

Upon our phone conference, I was already excited and thrilled to have this honor to capture their wedding. Benita explained that Ryan and her were creating a multicultural wedding that included the traditional Indian theme such has the Hana and that their family and guest were traveling from all over the US and some from abroad.

The Wedding Day at The Hilton Head Marriott Resort & Spa

Always organized and having a well designed thorough wedding day timeline and assisted with Design Studio South and the wonderful Alysse Sweeney, we managed to keep the clients very happy about their special day. This lovely couple decided to have a first look that was priceless and well directed, Ryan very similar to me very emotional and yes, it is true good guys cry from their heart, throughout this wedding day the couple and family shared the same emotions that also included excitement, & laughter. The reception at the ballroom directed by Dawn Farrell, head coordinator for The Hilton Head Marriott Resort & Spa was decorated to the nines and was spectacular. The company band got everyone on their feet and having the best time.

Benita & Ryan thank you for giving me such a huge honor to capture this special day, I know my wedding images that I created for you will let you reminisce this day for many generations. I once again thank you so very much and wish you both the best life together you are to me truly a great couple and blend perfect for each other. Enjoy this blog and my amazing art and incredible images for the passion I have for wedding photography that is captured from my heart.

Our Story Written By The Clients

Ryan and I met in September of 2013, just a few days after Ryan’s 29th birthday. I had just moved to North Carolina for graduate school. We were both out with some friends when the people we were out with decided got to know each other and thought that Ryan and I would be a good match. They introduced us to each other, and at first, it didn’t go so well. I cancelled our first date! Thanks to some convincing by my best friend, I decided to give him a chance and we re-scheduled the date. The rest was history. Ryan told me he loved me 13 days after we met (it took me a little bit longer – but not by much), and on the same night we planned our first vacation together in Seattle and Vancouver. Since then we have been living together, we got a second dog, we have gone on yearly vacations together, we got engaged 2 years after we met, and have planned (and had to re-plan) our wedding. Our initial plans were to get married at a resort in Puerto Rico, but after the disastrous hurricane Maria hit the island (which came through 3 weeks before our wedding date), we had to reschedule. After shedding a few tears, we realized that perspective is key and the people in Puerto Rico had it a lot worse than us. After making sure all our vendors and their families in Puerto Rico were okay, we set out to plan an entire wedding in Hilton Head, South Carolina in less than 3 weeks! We so lucky with our vendors and venue, and the day came and went without a hiccup! Our Hilton Head, SC Wedding Vendors

On this Wedding Wednesday, I am once again posting an incredible wedding for my clients Beth & Devin who gave me this huge honor that I captured at a private beautiful beach house located at 917 West Ashley Ave Folly Beach, SC.

Wedding Folly Beach, SC

I have been photographing weddings for 17 years, and I have been blessed to have been to many venues that includes plantations, vineyards, islands, stables, boats and many homes.

When Beth, contacted me to give me a great idea for her upcoming wedding and the theme, she was very excited about the home that they had rented. As she explained to me this place was simply elegant new and huge, she was speaking about the private residence on Folly beach known as 917 West Ashley. She was not kidding this place is gorgeous with 5 bedrooms home that sleeps 15 plus with 4 floors, Four (4) master suites, each with private bathrooms and all with an ocean view personal ‘Romeo & Juliet balcony’ Top floor features a billiard/game room with a tiki hut. I mean what more can you ask for? The lawn is huge and you are only a few steps from the beach.

The Wedding Day at 917 West Ashley, Folly Beach, SC

The wedding was beautiful as you can see by my wedding photography, the couple decided to have a first look that was priceless, family and friends enjoyed the wedding then the reception at this amazing home. DJ Rehab – Chris McCoy got the reception going while everyone enjoyed a spectacular meal prepared by Queen Street Catering, some of the best-tasting barbeque I have ever tasted and it was done on the property.

Thank you, Beth & Devin, I enjoyed meeting your family and friends and I am so glad you all chose me and that you will love my passion for the art in creating very artistic and amazing wedding photos.

Beth and Devin Love Story

Beth went to meet her new roommate for drinks a couple years ago in downtown Charleston. Little did she know, her life was about to change forever! She met Devin that day, ended up on the back of his Harley, and the rest is history! They love to go to Folly Beach, and Devin proposed on the beach (actually very close to the house where we got married!) so we knew it would be the perfect place for our special day.

An Autumn Wedding at The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa

What is there more to say about this beautiful southern charm wedding venue, The Westin Resort & Spa located in Hilton Head, SC, that has not already been said and described by me? A hotel so magical with a branding of excellent client service. When brides and groom search for a venue that can provide a magical wedding day like no other, this is by far in South Carolina the #1 choice. Trust me when I say this,  I have been photographing weddings for the last 17 years, and happy to say with now way over 500 weddings this venue stands out for so many reasons.

Autumn Hilton Head SC Wedding

I am blessed and honored to be a preferred wedding vendor on The Westin Resort & Spa Hilton Head, SC. Why one of the main reasons I capture so many weddings there. My new amazing clients Erin & Michael came to me all the way from Washington, DC. Again another destination wedding for this great couple. I remember Erin, who contacted me back in February, as she was in search of a wedding photographer for her October wedding at The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa. We spoke for a while and the very next day booked me after our 45 minutes consultation the day before and after her researching other wedding photographers in Hilton Head, SC. I was so glad she and Michael decided to give me this huge honor to capture their day

The Wedding Day at The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa

As always I arrived at The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & SPA 2.5 hours early driving in to from Charleston, SC to another beautiful Lowcountry weather day filled with beautiful blue sky. As I set up my equipment at the new beautiful Grand Ocean Terrace, I am always greeted by the lovely Ashlee Doughty the sales catering manager and a great friend and also the banquet supervisor another great friend and very good at what he does Serkan Koc. As always we go through the details of the entire timeline and coordinate together for a seamless wedding for our clients. I got to the bridal suite early the bride Erin and her lovely mom, bridesmaids, aunt, and friends smiling and enjoying the beautiful day. Then to Michael room with his groomsmen and his very nice parents. The interfaith ceremony at the Oceanfront Deck always spectacular, with the beautiful palm trees and ocean in the background a true Lowcountry feel. Shortly once the ceremony was over the family and friends and the bridal party enjoyed the cocktails at the Grand Ocean Terrace, overlooking the sunset & ocean and beach, while I was capturing the beautiful couple. Shortly thereafter the reception festivities began to lead by the so very talented DJ Alan Palchack, and everyone enjoyed what they called one of the best weddings and venue they had ever been to.

Erin and Michael Love Story

Here from the bride and groom in their own words is how this special day became.

Michael and Erin met in college. Erin was a sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh and Michael walked into her life on his way to meet someone else. A group of them, including Michael’s then date, when to an amusement park for fright night during Halloween. Erin was terrified of roller coasters, which, to this day, seriously confuses Michael. Her friends, both on dates with Michael and his friend, convinced Erin to face her fear and ride a roller coaster. Erin decided this would be the day and got all the way to the front of the line, panicked and backed out. Meanwhile, Michael had already completed a successful ride on the same roller coaster and Erin’s friends suggested she call Michael and wait with him while they went. One phone call later and Erin and Michael were standing alone face-to-face. The rest is history. It’s hearing “I love you” at Peter’s Pub at Pitt at 2am, it’s truly believing they were going to die because they had to spend a semester apart, it’s moving in together in D.C. and then quickly moving out because of black mold, it’s morning coffee with and without cream, dude ranches out West and an incredible December engagement.

Weddings The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa

A Wedding At The Grand Ocean Terrace At The Westin HHI For Lindsay & Zach

The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa just opened an exclusive southern chic new wedding venue called The Grand Ocean Terrace. This incredible venue features an unobstructed ocean view, with over 5,000.00 square feet, it can accommodate about 220 guest, a full balcony and stone patio with a fireplace, and a bridal dressing room. Back on June 27th, I was honored to be one of the very few wedding photographers that were invited to their Gala of the unveiling of The Grand Ocean Terrace. This night was spectacular including the ribbon cutting of this new venue and it featured wedding vendors from all over the US.

Since I am on their preferred vendor’s list which is a huge honor, I had already booked clients that were having their magical wedding at this beautiful venue.

This is where back in June 21st, 2016, when I received a call from Mrs. Gutta who was looking for a wedding photographer for her daughter’s wedding. We exchanged a couple of emails, Lindsay the bride to be chose me on that same day. I was so happy. Then in February 2017, I had the pleasure of meeting Lindsay & Zach at my studio. I could see that they were my ideal clients who wanted a seamless wedding and loved my assistance in creating the perfect wedding timeline. When July came around the corner, I had two weddings at this venue booked one on that Friday and the other on that Saturday.

When their wedding day became it was a gorgeous day, and evening, always an elegant wedding affair at The Westin Resort & Spa in Hilton Head, SC. All of the  wedding vendors worked perfectly together, the timeline went without any delays,  the reception as always a perfect soiree coordinated by the beautiful Ashlee Fleming and her wonderful team that lives by their branding of delivering impeccable service,  from everyone flowing smiling faces from their incredible staff. The clients family and friends in awe, and as you can see in my wedding images the perfect reflection of this amazing wedding night and this beautiful venue.

Here is Lindsay and Zach story on how this day became:

Zach and I met on the Beach while working for a summer in Ocean City, MD. We dated long distance for about 3 years while we were attending college. Zach at Clemson University, Lindsay at West Virginia University. Eventually, we moved in together and dated for 7 years before getting engaged.

We got engaged at Filoli Gardens in Woodside, California on 7/12/16 on our 7 year anniversary. Lindsay had just completed the Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon in San Francisco and we decided to stop for a walk on the way home. Zach said in his proposal that he wanted to give me “A rock for escaping from ‘The Rock'”

We chose to get married in Hilton Head since it was my (Lindsay) families home away from home while we were growing up. It was always our go to vacation spot. Zachs parents also lived near by in Isle of Palms so it was an easy choice.

My mom (Karen Gutta) planned our wedding and we called her ‘Events by Karen’ Jo for fun.

The Westin was selected for their new Ocean front venue. Construction had not begun when we reserved the venue. The Clients Wedding preferred Vendors:

A Charleston SC Proposal Engagement For Lauren And Nate

Today as I post a blog during the biggest storm ever to come to the US, Irma, as the winds and storm surges are coming in, I am very lucky I live on Daniel Island, SC. I still have power and I choose to work. Actually, this is not even work, as I have such a passion for what God has given to me, in being able to capture my clients in the happiest time of their lives. Back at the end of June, I received a call from Nate, who was very nervous, excited and unfamiliar with picking the right photographer to capture Lauren and his proposal. You see Nate and I hit it off right away because we shared similar ways of doing things, first being Type A, and next planning this session without any complication. Nate complimented me on my art and loved at that time all of the 65 Google reviews he read about what my past clients had to say about my impeccable service to them.

We communicated many times via phone calls, emails, and text on numerous occasions and we even had a rain plan should that day had one. In fact on the day of the proposal Nate, and I secretly communicate through text and I even got a phone call from him. Like I said (type A). In helping Nate, pull this once in a lifetime moment, I gave him great advice prior to this day, in the perfect location, the perfect background and the least crowded place where he would feel like proposing which was Water Front Park. I love this place because you have such a huge amount of different pallets of backgrounds that you can create amazing images. Between the marsh land, the pineapple and the Ravenel bridge, the water fountain the possibilities are endless.

I showed up one hour early to give Nate that comfort and because has a professional, it is the right thing to do for any client, I always check my equipment, lighting and balance everything to my personal taste. I am so glad I showed up early, Nate, must of have been very nervous because Lauren and he showed up 24 minutes before they were supposed to.

The best way to showcase this incredible moment and the hour after that we spent taking engagement photos around the park is to let you all tell me if as a storyteller, I created just that? Enjoy:

Lowcountry Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island SC Nuptial For Jeannette & Christian

Living on the east coast and being a storyteller as a wedding photographer in Charleston, SC can be the best and just simply amazing. When I think how lucky I am to all my past super nice clients that have given me this huge honor and opportunity to capture their weddings here in the Lowcountry.

As I blog today about another spectacular wedding this time, I am gifted to have this great opportunity to travel to Sonesta Resort in Hilton Head, SC. My clients Jeannette & Christian were very proactive and booked me a year in advance as I always recommend to most of my clients. We went to work early and I assisted them in planning their wedding day by creating a wedding day timeline. We had about 4 different drafts and when it was said and done they were very happy with the final wedding day timeline.

Upon arriving on their day at Sonesta Resort in Hilton Head, SC about 1.5 hrs before I was supposed to, I started as I always do, getting my equipment together and walking around the property. The forecast for this day was cloudy and thunderstorm throughout the day. As I got to Christian room the fellow’s groomsmen were very nice, we proceeded with going outside after pre photos and so far the weather was good. However as soon as I got to Jeannette room all of the bridesmaids were on their phone and talking about the weather, I could see in Jeannette eyes that this was a huge concern since the ceremony was going to be on the beach. With all that said yes the sky turned gray to black and lighting and rain came pouring down. However, God was on their side about 1.5 hours later as the bad weather passed while still being cloudy and they still were able to have their ceremony on the beach. With all that said and it is always like this when the bad weather goes away you get an incredible sunset, and because we had already allotted for that into the timeline, I was able to take the lovely couple outside for some of the most spectacular sunset photos I have ever captured, one side was totally orange and the other dark blue, being an artist I created some spectacular sunset wedding images for them. The reception in the ballroom was elegant, I provided the clients the photography for their photo booth without them having that extra expense and them proving the backdrop. As always Sonesta team lead by Kristen made the wedding nothing short of a perfect soiree, the evening was entertained by DJ Crush, who made sure everyone got on their feet and had a perfect evening.

Thank you, Jeannette and Christian, for giving me this amazing opportunity and honor, enjoy your wedding through my eyes.

Jeannette and Christian’s Story

It was  a cold, rainy day in March 2014 when Christian walked into Starbucks in Wantagh, NY.  He had arranged to meet Jeannette there after finding her on match.com.  Knowing that Jeannette was a sport’s fan Christian walked up to the table saying “I respect the Mets, I despise the Yankees”; to which Jeannette responded, “Good thing I’m a Mets fan”.  Conversation continued and Jeannette knew he was a keeper when he started to talk about which way to go around Epcot in Disneyworld.  From that day on, they became inseparable.

A little less than two years later, February 2016, Jeannette and Christian went to Puerto Rico for vacation and to visit family.  While walking in the water Christian twirls Jeannette around and asks her to marry him.

A year and a half later, with 75 close family and friends, Jeannette and Christian said I Do on the beach of the Sonesta Resort in Hilton Head South Carolina.  They could not have planned such an amazing destination wedding without the support of their wonderful vendors.

Citadel Military Charleston, SC Wedding For Samantha & Joe

Military weddings have a special place in my heart. When you know how lucky and fortunate we are as Americans to live free in this great country, you step back and realize that our military has so much to do with it. We all love all military and these brave soldiers, however, I know that every day when I see  anyone from the military, I always walk up to that person and say I we really appreciate what you all do for our country.

Then comes a way to give and show my respect to those soldiers when they give me the honor and privilege to capture their wedding. I met this lovely couple Samantha & Joseph at Wedding Festival show back in August of last year, there was even a bonus, has Joe brought his lovely mother as well. They walked to my booth and we had a lovely consultation, they had at that time a choice of 14 other wedding photographers to also choose from. As I expected with the great connection we had the fantastic offer I gave them, that they had total confidence in my passion.

Citadel Military Charleston, SC

June was here now and their magical day was near. Samantha was very busy and I managed to capture her bridal session prior to the wedding in many locations of our Holy City and being a bright and very smart person and she is graduating from the College of Charleston was the theme we wanted to include and which bride would not want to be photographed at The Cistern. Then came their rehearsal dinner on the beautiful the Carolina Queen Riverboat a perfect sunset amazing family and friends, I even got a chance to have a very small engagement session. On their day with Samantha and Joe, we had designed a great wedding timeline since we would be there for many hours and go to 4 different locations. Kevin (the cinematic videographer) and I met Samantha and her lovely bridesmaids at Pink Dot on Meeting Street, Charleston, SC. The to Joe with his groomsmen the to the park at the Citadel for some very cool photos Joe’s groomsmen having a great time. A full mass Ceremony at the Citadel Summerall Chapel, then to the southern soiree reception at the Citadel Beach house. Their magical day went perfect, and this time Samantha & Joe thanked Kevin and me for our service that we provided to them and their family. I know you all reading this blog will love the art I created for them as I know they are. Enjoy and remember reach out and thank our amazing military every day.

Here is the lovely couple story on how this Day became:

Joe first met Samantha at a Saturday night swing dance in February 2014. She was a sophomore at the College of Charleston; he was a junior at the Citadel. Three months later, Joe showed up again and found that the radiant socialite Sam did not remember him. He suavely procured her number the next week and invited her to Patriot’s Point to see the band Dangermuffin. The night went perfectly: a low-key, high energy start to a friendly summer.

After two months of playing tennis and mini golf, watching Godzilla and Star Wars, dancing and picnicking, Joe begrudgingly left Sam for six weeks of Marine Corps Officer Candidate School in Quantico, VA. Heartfelt letters revealed the true potential of their romance, and in the end Sam flew up with his family to see him graduate – a very “girlfriend” thing to do.

Two summers later, Sam finished her B.S. in Accounting and Joe (B.S. PoliSci) commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. On June 18, 2016, Joe floored Sam on the dance floor at the Summerville Country Club by proposing in front of 200 friends and family members celebrating his commission. (Legend has it that she screamed and snatched the ring.)

Long-distance fiancéhood proved challenging for wedding planning. While Joe was in Quantico, VA for The Basic School, then Pensacola, FL for flight school, Sam was in Charleston earning her Master of Accountancy degree. Thanks to accommodating, experienced vendors and support from family and friends, the details came together beautifully and their wedding celebration was one to remember.
