They built The Sanctuary Hotel, which was part of the original 1970's development plan, and they made the decision to close the old Kiawah Island Inn Turtle point golf course built in 1981, Osprey Point Golf Course is designed.Incorporated in 1988, the Town of Kiawah Island operates as a Mayor-Council form of government. The Town takes an active role in managing the natural resources of Kiawah Island. Unfortunately in 1989 Hurricane Hugo hits Charleston,Sc, in 1995 Kiawah Island Club River Course is designed, and in 2000 Kiawah island, Cassique Course is also designed, while in 2004 Freshfield village is started and the Sanctuary hotel opens, and finally in 2013 the town of Kiawah announces to South Street Partners of Charlotte North Carolina.
